Our Asia-Pacific (APAC) team is one team spread across Asia and Australia with offices in Sydney, Dubai, Bangkok and Hong Kong. They work closely together to ensure they remain as one team through hard work and knowledge sharing. In today’s post, we hear from our Australian and UAE counterparts to see what it’s like working on their team. Could you give a brief overview of your team?
Sydney Office: Our dynamic duo is Steph Hubner, Area Manager, and Tilly Hemperger, Account Manager, for Australia and New Zealand. Our top priority is ensuring that our customers can find the best tickets, tours, and activities so that their experience down under is spectacular!
Dubai Office: The team in Dubai consists of Julia and Pamela. Julia Randow, Regional Director APAC is responsible for the entire APAC, Julia looks after the potential of our region making sure that it performs at its best. She is always looking for optimal deals that will make the region grow at the fastest pace. Being in charge of the APAC team, Julia gives to the team the support and coaching needed to follow the company’s strategy and to get the results required. Pamela Castillo, Account Manager MENA is responsible for the Middle East and North Africa accounts, looks after the optimization of the existing products, and the onboarding of new attractions and quality products to make sure we achieve the company’s goals and deliver the best experience to our customers.
What does an average day on your team look like?
Dubai Office: We always start the day by bringing a positive energy to the office. We have a quick catch up and start with pending issues, then we check our reports and follow up with the planned strategy, attend meetings, or contact our suppliers to organize new meetings.
Sydney Office: After braving the wild seas from Manly to the CBD (central business district) or single-handedly tackling the subway system on our morning commute, we hit the ground running in the office. We focus on where we can move the needle: where can we grow bookings for our suppliers and make sure we have the products that our customers are looking for.
What is your team currently working on?
Sydney Office: We’ve been working hard to acquire the best of the best in things to do in Australia and New Zealand for our customers. This means being local experts, deep-diving into data, lots of face-to-face meetings, and product testing!
Dubai Office: We are working on growing the destinations that we manage, at the moment focusing on onboarding the main attractions. We are working on improving our business skills on a daily basis and analyze every task to see what can we do better for the next time.
What are the principles that your team lives by?
Both Dubai and Sydney Offices: Get things done, look after each other, enjoy your job, be authentic, embrace feedback, listen actively, and ask lots of questions.
What advice would you have for someone who would like to join your team?
Sydney Office: Every day is different and you’ll have to think on your toes. Get ready to be inspired, challenged, and travel a lot!
Dubai Office: Do research on the culture of the company. If you like challenges and find joy in working hard and independently while still being part of one team working towards the same objective, you will be in the right place with us here in Dubai and within the whole GetYourGuide team.
How do you remain connected to the culture and core values of GetYourGuide while working remotely?
Dubai Office: Every single person I know in GetYourGuide lives the core values so it’s very easy for us to stay connected with these as it is a daily reassurance in any conversation or through any communication systems with all GetYourGuide members.
Sydney Office: We have a couple of ways! Like regular video catch ups (when the time zones are friendly), visits to the Berlin HQ, the core values proudly hung on our office wall, and making time to celebrate our successes (did someone say chips & dip?!)
What is your favourite thing about working with GetYourGuide?
Dubai Office: The effort that the company puts in to make sure that we enjoy our job and to try to give us the tools we need in order to feel this way.
Sydney Office: We are so chuffed to be working with our incredible colleagues from all around the world, who are truly passionate about turning trips into amazing experiences!
