Referral stories at GetYourGuide

GetYourGuide
Careers Team

It’s simple. If you work for GetYourGuide and refer a friend or ex-colleague to work here, you get rewarded. And yes, we mean financially (as well as psychologically). It’s a tried-and-tested method, and here’s why it’s worked so well for us over the last three years.

Existing employees: Creating a cohesive work environment

People you trust take time to come by. So, if you’ve worked successfully with someone in the past and think they might be a good fit at your workplace, why not get the band back together for a cash bonus? When acquiring talent is the goal, it makes perfect sense to incentivize our team to invite friends and ex-colleagues to join our mission to revolutionize the travel industry. After all, they have a proven track record of success.

Our people make GetYourGuide what it is today. Referring is also a great way of encouraging our team to play a crucial part in shaping the company’s future. It helps fuel passion and enthusiasm for the brand, allowing every employee to become personally invested in the greater collective — and get a reward while they’re at it.

But referrals are more than just jobs for your buddies; they’re a testament to our mission and values. When someone decides to bring someone new into the fold, it’s often down to the positive environment and growth opportunities that GetYourGuide provides. And that’s something we continue to be proud of.

New employees: A smooth transition

Being referred by a friend or ex-colleague makes for quicker, easier integration for new employees. Whether you find it difficult to settle into a new group or not, it always helps to have a head start. Your colleagues quickly become an important social group, so having a good chance of a smooth transition is always handy when adapting to a new environment.

A network of trusted relationships means better collaboration. When surrounded by people we trust, we’re more confident in our ability to drive innovation and share ideas easily. Not to mention the obvious benefits that working with your friends brings, like reminiscing over cups of coffee, good energy in the office, and being there to support each other when things get challenging.

But don’t just take our word for it! Our lovely team’s successful referral stories prove precisely how and why referrals work. Here are three of our favorites.

Success story 1: Marcello & Cliff

Hey Cliff! Where did you two first meet?

We met back in 2015 while working at tutti.ch. Marcello was still a young, talented, and good-looking software engineer… I was a product manager, albeit much less good-looking! The company was small, the team was close, and the Friday beers were plenty.

Hi Marcello! Who referred who, and why?

I referred Cliff because I enjoyed working with him immensely. He’s a smart, funny guy with a get sh** done attitude. When we opened the Product Lead position in Ticketing, I immediately reached out to him, knowing he would be perfect for the role due to his skills and alignment with our values.

Marcello, what made you think Cliff would be a good fit at GetYourGuide?

Cliff and I shared values that aligned well with GetYourGuide. We’re both ambitious, willing to try new things, take risks, and we care deeply about our customers and colleagues. Cliff consistently created a positive atmosphere in our previous teams while delivering excellent results, so I wanted to bring that same dynamic here.

What was it like starting at GetYourGuide with Marcello?

Starting at GetYourGuide with Marcello there was super easy. It was as if we’d never stopped working together. Marcello was also a great help in getting to know the ins and outs of GetYourGuide and working with the rest of the team.

Would you refer someone you know to work for GetYourGuide?

Sure, I do it on a regular basis!

Success story 2: Martin & Morena

Hi Martin! Where did you first meet?

In our previous company, a fintech startup, we worked together in the data science team for a year and a half.

Hey Morena! Who referred who, and why?

I referred Martin. When we worked together in our previous company, I started as an intern, and Martin was a senior. I learned loads from him — he’s a very helpful and reliable person who’s passionate about teaching people new things. On top of that, he’s hilarious and fun to work with.

Morena, what made you think Martin would be a good fit at GetYourGuide?

We needed an MLOps Engineer with lots of experience and an extensive technical skillset — Martin had both. Culturally, GetYourGuide is a place where you’re encouraged to learn from one another, which fits well with Martin’s mindset. He’s curious, likes to ask questions and challenge the status quo, and is a very pleasant, patient, positive-minded person to be around.

Martin, what was it like starting at GetYourGuide with Morena?

It was really good starting at a new place with a familiar face. After our time at Finiata, I got to know how Morena worked. I had the added bonus of joining her team, which allowed me to integrate quickly. Morena told me about her positive experiences before joining, and our talks helped me prepare to join.

Would you refer someone you know to work for GetYourGuide?

Yes, and I have done! GetYourGuide values its employees and tries to help them grow. The company is large and diverse enough that you’re bound to meet like-minded people and build good relationships.

Success story 3: Adri & Anna

Hey Adri! Where did you first meet?

Anna and I met on the marketing team at Gorillas. I was working as a CRM and performance marketing copywriter and Anna was our CRM manager, so we worked very closely together, writing and executing campaigns to retain customers.

Hi Anna! Who referred who, and why?

I referred Adri. She was looking for new opportunities and considered applying for GetYourGuide. After she reached out, I shared my enthusiasm for our company culture and good experiences working with the marketing team.

Anna, what made you think Adri would be a good fit at GetYourGuide?

She’s a very fun and creative person to work with. Adri always has great and bold ideas for copy creation and is constantly challenging the status quo, which makes her a great fit here!

Adri, what was it like starting at GetYourGuide with Anna?

It was super nice to have a familiar face when starting my new job, plus it was reassuring to know we’d done both of us a favor. I got a new gig at an incredible company that really rewards its employees, and Anna got a bonus for referring me. The entire recruitment process went very smoothly, so it felt like an easy win that both of us could benefit from.

Would you refer someone you know to work for GetYourGuide?

Absolutely! We’ve already hired one of my referrals, and I have a few others in the pipeline. GetYourGuide invests in its employees. Everyone deserves to find a workplace that values them and compensates them fairly, so anyone I know can always hit me up for a referral!

Old friends. New horizons.

Our personal connections continue to transform our workplace into a vibrant community. Employee referrals bring a unique blend of trust, camaraderie, and shared experiences that work to enrich our company culture. These stories are proof of the joy they can add to working life.

Just like Marcello, Cliff, Martin, Morena, Adri, and Anna, we can all thrive in an environment full of people who make us feel comfortable and valued. Today, they’re all doing well, contributing to projects that continue to shape the future of millions of travel experiences. Long may it continue!

At GetYourGuide, we believe every referral is a step towards a more dynamic and inclusive workspace. Friends join forces, and the possibilities are limitless.
