Here's How We’re Onboarding New Employees During COVID-19

As of March 11, our team members have been working from home until further notice, due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases globally. Even in times of crisis, we’re committed to delivering incredible employee experiences onboarding from home.

Here is a brief overview of the revised Onboarding Days adjusted specifically for onboarding from home. This is for new joiners who are:

1. already in Berlin
2. not yet in Berlin
3. based in local offices e.g. London, Dubai, Rio de Janeiro

All new hires will receive the same important information that we give out on Onboarding Days, including their departmental point of contact and the opportunity to meet fellow new hires.

New joiners will be onboarded twice per month as usual, on the 1st and the 15th of each month.

Two weeks ahead of the new joiner’s start date, our talent onboarding specialist will contact new hires personally with a more detailed time table.

After they start, we’ll organize an additional remote check-in for the new groups two weeks into their roles. This call will follow up on how they’ve found the first two weeks and to discuss any issues they may have come across.

For newcomers who are:

• already in Berlin: On Day 1, you’ll meet at the Ampere office in the morning. Safety is a priority, so we will split into small groups and separate rooms. It is a very brief morning where new joiners will get their laptop, welcome bag, and sign any outstanding hardcopy documents, before being sent home. The rest of the onboarding will take place remotely.
• We are doing this process, for now, to ensure the smoothest onboarding as possible during the initial company account activation. This first part is done in person so we can troubleshoot any issues and immediately action requests.

• not yet in Germany: Because of the ongoing travel restrictions, we will consider sending laptops and needed materials to our new joiners. In this case, we will be in direct contact with you to coordinate the best solution. You will receive the same remote video onboarding as those who are already in Berlin. The only difference is we’ll wait until further notice to give you your welcome bag in person.

• onboarding in local offices: Your onboarding will be managed by your hiring manager directly. They will contact you directly to arrange times. We may do some remote technical setups for people getting onboarded in the international offices. We’re currently considering the logistics of shipping laptops to people’s homes.

All new joiners will attend the following onboarding from home session:

Day 1

Theme: Join the journey

Our talent onboarding specialist will give you an introduction to the GetYourGuide story, mission, and values. You will also have a one-on-one meeting with your manager, which should be arranged beforehand.

Day 2

Theme: Curing the chaos

On the second day, we will walk you through the employee journey at GetYourGuide with a round of introductions and an overview of the People team including the Employee Representation Group, Talent Acquisition, and Employer Branding. We’ll then walk through fire safety, health and work safety, and IT security.
