The context

Whoever you’re interviewing with, the most important thing you can do is to take the time to understand the fundamentals of how the company operates. Here’s a quick checklist to ask yourself as soon as you get a callback:

  1. How do they make money?
  2. Who are their customers?
  3. What are the biggest levers for growth?

Interviewers notice immediately when a candidate can (and can’t) connect their analysis to the actual business. Having these answers means you can easily demonstrate your ability to drive strategic decisions, influence roadmaps, reduce uncertainty, and set up metrics that will determine the fate of major investments - all vital elements of landing the role.

Let’s take GetYourGuide as an example. We’re a two-sided marketplace connecting millions of travelers with over 200,000 experiences from 50,000 creators worldwide. Here, data problems rarely sit neatly on one side. A drop in bookings could be an API issue, a traffic change, a product issue, or exogenous factors. Grasp that dynamic before you arrive, and you’ll be able to ask the right questions.

Now, let’s dive into the details of your GetYourGuide interview.

The interview process

Want to know what’s coming at each stage of the data analyst interview? Here it is. Understanding the structure in advance means you can intentionally choose which skills and experiences to highlight at each step, manage your energy throughout the interview day, and show up with informed confidence.

And, rest assured: we’re invested in your success throughout the process. You’ll receive tailored prep material ahead of each interview, plus detailed feedback after every round (regardless of the outcome).

Recruiter phone screen (30 min)

You’ll discuss: General role and company alignment.

Top tip: Come with a clear narrative and genuine curiosity about what we do. Here, we’re assessing for clear communication signals.

Manager phone screen (45 min)

You’ll discuss: Business problem-solving, communication, and AI savviness.

Top tip: Your hiring manager will try to understand how you think and navigate challenges. Be prepared to share your most impactful projects (from a business or customer perspective).

Technical phone screen (60 min)

You’ll discuss: SQL, statistics modeling, paradoxes, and skepticism.

Top tip: Expect to discuss writing efficient queries, A/B testing, and data integrity.

Final interviews

Business case interview (60 min)

Here, you’ll work through an ambiguous business problem. We’re watching how you structure your thinking, apply 80/20 prioritization, and connect analysis to a real recommendation.

Stakeholder interview (45 min)

This one’s all about collaboration and communication. Come with examples of how you navigated disagreement, pushed back thoughtfully, and built trust across functions. You’ll also be assessed on how well you can break down complex technical concepts to non-technical business partners, which is a core part of this role.

Peer interview (45 min)

Here, we’re looking for signals to show your curiosity, adaptability, and sense of ownership.

Note: For some senior roles, we conduct an additional interview focused on strategic leadership and business problem-solving with a senior leader.

The traits we’re looking for

At GetYourGuide, our analytics mandate is specific: influence the business to work on the right problems. We own measurement, but we also know when uncertainty is unavoidable. When this is managed well, we can drive impact that shows up in the product, in supply, and in growth.

Here’s what we’re looking for in you:

Customer obsession

Almost every decision we make comes back to travelers and experience creators deserving better. When you’re discussing past work, show us how your analysis and collaboration connect to a real improvement for the people the business serves.

The ability to embrace difficult problems

We don’t shy away from complex situations; we lean in. In your interview, walk us through a difficult problem and show how you navigated it. We’re not looking for polished answers; we’re looking for honest, critical thinking.

Decision-making, even with incomplete information

We move fast, and we expect analysts to form clear views even when the data isn’t perfect. In interviews, we’d rather see you commit to a directional answer and articulate your assumptions than hedge endlessly waiting for certainty.

Great communication

At GetYourGuide, your impact is only as large as your ability to bring others with you. Treat every interview answer like a mini-presentation: context, insight, so what, recommendation.

Technical depth

We have a track record of advancing methods and pushing ourselves to grow. That means thinking from first principles, understanding the fundamentals deeply, and not stopping at the first solution that works. Show us you’re ready to grow, and that you’re already pushing yourself to learn more.

What sets the best candidates apart?

The analysts who stand out signal an impact-oriented mindset, a deep understanding of their craft, strong business sense, and excellent communication skills during interviews.

Now you know what we’re looking for, here are some examples of how you can demonstrate the most important winning attributes in your interview.

Tell us how you understand meaningful impact

Go beyond moving a metric and offer a view on whether it was worth moving and why. This also demonstrates your understanding of our core business infrastructure.

Show you can detect strategic intent

Try reframing the interviewer’s question to align with the underlying business objective, highlighting a more important angle or flagging a flaw in the premise.

Demonstrate a strong command of experimentation

To show your ability to embrace healthy skepticism, point out what makes a result trustworthy, and when you shouldn’t trust a statistically significant result at face value.

Show you’re not afraid of productive disagreement

Come with a point of view, with examples that show you have something to contribute. We’re always interested to learn how your thinking differs from how the other party thinks about the problem.

You’re ready

We’re looking for candidates who drive business impact, don’t shy away from complex problems, get out of their comfort zone, and have a strong sense of how our business operates. If that sounds like you, check out our open roles.
