We’ve already written a blog about why encouraging our team to refer their friends and colleagues works so well for us. It’s here if you want to read it.
But, to really drive the point home—and hear a little more from our lovely team about what drew them to GetYourGuide in the first place—we thought we’d write another one.

There are lots of answers to this question. Here are our top three.
Employee referrals bring immense value, often connecting us with highly aligned and dedicated candidates. Every referral helps shape our workplace community, enabling us to expand our skill set with trusted professionals already vetted by a team member.
Secondly, referred employees are more likely to stick around because they understand the company culture from the start. When our employees feel confident enough to recommend us to their friends and ex-co-workers, it’s a testament to the vibrant and welcoming environment we work hard to maintain.
Lastly, giving our employees a say in the company’s structure builds collaboration, community, and personal investment. That’s why we offer cash bonuses for every successful referral, incentivizing our team to invite those they trust into the fold.
Now, for the fun part. We interviewed a few dynamic duos to prove just how well employee referrals work for us at GetYourGuide.
Hi Tanya! Where did you first meet Sweta?
We met in New York during the application process for the IESE MBA Program. We went to lunch together, and Sweta invited us to join her in the evening to go out with some of her friends from New York. After that, we decided to live together for two years in Barcelona during our MBA.
Who referred who, and why?
I referred Sweta. She loves to travel and is passionate about finding unforgettable experiences–mainly around food! She’s also a great team player who will always take the time to provide valuable feedback and collaborate, achieving outstanding results.
What made you think Sweta would be a good fit at GetYourGuide?
She’s one of the most intelligent people I know. She’s great at seeing the big picture and always thinks ten steps ahead. With her experience, I knew she would be a great cultural fit for GetYourGuide.
Hey Sweta! What was it like starting at GetYourGuide with Tanya?
Starting at GetYourGuide with Tanya was like having my own personal sunshine on a cloudy day. We met at IESE during our MBA and were also roommates, so we know each other very well.
One of the things I appreciate most about Tanya is her ability to navigate challenges with a smile. Tanya’s positivity and support were very helpful as I relocated to Berlin for the job. I felt like I had a best friend and an expert guide in one package.
Would you refer someone you know to work for GetYourGuide?
Absolutely! I’ve already started receiving requests from people interested in roles at GetYourGuide and have made two referrals so far. Who wouldn't want to work for a company that makes exploring the world it's business?
Lastly Sweta, what drew you to GetYourGuide, and how has your experience been so far?
What drew me to GetYourGuide was the sheer fun of working in tourism. It’s a joyful industry because people love to travel and experience so much pleasure from it. The industry is very segmented, and the work GetYourGuide is doing to create a cohesive marketplace keeps me on my toes because of the challenges we get to tackle.
How about you, Tanya?
I wanted to work for a company and industry I felt passionate about. I was looking for an exciting opportunity that would allow me to use my analytical and strategic skills to drive tangible impact.
My experience has been incredibly positive, all thanks to the people I work with. We’ve managed to create an environment with highly talented individuals from all over the world. Even though we all have unique traits, we work towards a common goal and tackle the challenges of scaling up as a team.
Hi Joseph! Where did you first meet Benedict?
Benedict and I were former colleagues at a Zurich-based company, and had the chance to work closely together on an exciting project on the public transport system in Switzerland.
Who referred who, and why?
Benedict referred me for the Senior Mobile Engineer role because he believed that I was a perfect fit. Given our collaboration, he knew where my expertise lay and thought I would be a good match for GetYourGuide’s culture.
Hey Benedict! What made you think Joseph would be a good fit?
While we worked together on the same project, I recognized that Joseph cares deeply about customer problems, ensures good code quality, and has a great understanding of the iOS platform. It was always a pleasure to work with him.
Joseph, what was it like starting at GetYourGuide with Benedict?
Having Benedict around definitely had a positive impact on my start here. He helped me get to know people from outside my team. He also made sure I knew what factors are most important to the business as a whole and offered advice on how to have a bigger impact.
Would you refer someone you know to work for GetYourGuide?
I would definitely refer friends and ex-colleagues to GetYourGuide. In fact, I’ve made a couple already!
Lastly, what drew you to this company in the first place, and how has your experience been so far?
One of the main reasons I joined was the company’s personal growth culture and recognition of its employees’ achievements.
How about you, Benedict?
For me, it’s also the personal growth opportunities and the mission GetYourGuide has, as well as positively impacting the customer experience. So far, the experience has been excellent, and it’s exciting to be here!
